Breakfast Book Bistro Suggested Timeline

House B Language Arts

Mrs. Gann

Here is the suggested timeline for the BBB assignment.  I have broken it down into weekly “checkpoints.”  Time management is crucial in the success of this project.

Week 1 (January 18--weekend of January 21st):  Get to your local library or bookstore and choose your two books.  Bring whatever materials you have to class on Monday the 24th.  We will talk about how to make good choices about books and how to explore your interests through reading.

Week 2 (January 24-28):  Choose your first book and begin reading!  You should bring your book to school with you and be reading during your study hall every day.  If you don’t have a study hall, set aside 40 minutes every night just for quiet reading.  (This means that you're not playing Xbox, watching Spongebob, eating a snack, and talking on the phone all while trying to read your book.)  Use a kitchen timer to help you manage your time.  Friday the 28th, be prepared to come to class and let us know how your reading is coming along.  Bring questions with you...for some students, independent reading will be a new and fabulous experience, and we want to be able to assist you in any way we can.  We will do some "data collection" and help keep track of your progress.

Week 3 (January 31-February 4):  Continue with book 1.  Plan your independent reading time either at home or in study hall.  You should be far enough along in your book to begin filling in one of the many graphic organizers we have provided to you in your book review packet.  Friday the 4th, be prepared to ask questions about plot, characterization, setting, etc.  Think about how Mrs. Hanlon and I can assist you in your preparation of an interesting book review.

Week 4 (February 7-11)  You should be finishing book 1 this week.  You should have enough notes and organizers created to do a rough draft of your review.  Bring your rough draft to class on Friday the 11th.  We will do mini-editing sessions.  If you want, write and post (or turn in) your first book review over the weekend.  One down, one to go!

Week 5 (February 14-18):  Begin reading book 2, if you haven’t already done so.  Bring it to study hall.  Set the kitchen timer at home.  You are a pro at this!  Friday the 18th, be prepared to give a quick oral overview of book 2 to your classmates.

Week 6 (February 21-25):  Continue with book 2.  Plan your independent reading time either at home or in study hall.  You should be far enough along in your book to begin filling in one of the many graphic organizers we have provided to you in your book review packet.  Friday the 25th , be prepared to ask questions about plot, characterization, setting, etc.  Think about how Mrs. Hanlon and I can assist you in your preparation of an interesting book review.

Week 7 (February 28-March 4):  You should be finishing book 2 this week.  You should have enough notes and organizers created to do a rough draft of your review.  Bring your rough draft to class on Friday the 4th.  We will do mini-editing sessions.  If you want, write and post (or turn in) your second book review over the weekend.  You are in the home stretch!

Week 8 (March 7-11):  If you haven’t completed either of your written reviews, this is wrap-up week.  You need to work on your writing products and we will have some class time this week to do so.  If you have completed your writing products, please be available to peer edit with your classmates who are still in need of assistance.

Week 9 (March 14-18):  This is the end of the line.  No reviews (written or posted) will be accepted past 5 p.m. on March 18.  We will have some time during class to work, but don’t bet on this time being enough for you to really finish with a bang.  Plan your time.

Don’t be this guy!:
